All Things New

Lately, I’ve been craving for a lot of new things. I almost felt guilty the other day wanting something I already have, just a newer model.  Then, there are these other experiences, which I’ve never had, that I long for. There is a dissatisfaction with the old that makes me dare to believe for more. Then, two weeks ago, I found myself praying in the spirit with utterance for ‘all things to be made new’ – starting with my relationship with God– a newer revelation of Who He is. Something deep in me was calling for the fresh, newly-made, newly-invented life He has for us.
It got me thinking, why do we desire new things?

To have something new implies exclusion or supplanting of that which is past or old.
Longing for all things new is a truth anticipated in our hearts. It’s the realization that we were meant for more – a meaningful more that God has planted in us.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth and He called it good. Then sin came into the picture and the world was not “good” anymore.
Everything needed restoration.

The last book in the Bible illustrates perfectly the anticipation - Revelation 21:5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
These are the beautiful, hope-filled, God-ordained words written about a new heaven and earth. It’s God’s desire to make all things new!
In Revelation 21, John recounts seeing a magnificent Holy City where God dwells among His people. God promises, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

‘All things new’ has always been the heart of the Father for His people. Isaiah reminds us to forget the former things. Corinthians says the old has gone and the new is here. Colossians exhorts us to put on our new self. Galatians calls us a new creation. The Gospel of John talks about the transformation that occurs when we surrender to God.
“Behold, I make all things new.” – Have a wow moment.
All things. Not some. All. Made. New.

So why do we desire new things? Because He makes all things new.
